The Exchange /forestprep command extends the schema to include Exchange specific classes and attributes. It also creates the container object for the Exchange Server 2003 and grants Full Administrative permissions to the organization object to the account you specify.
Why do we need to run /forestprep command?
In large organization, IT managers do not like to assign high level domain permissions to the Exchange Administrators. They want full control to be in the hands of experienced Windows Administrators.
For example, Windows Administrators (having Enterprise Admin and Schema Admin permissions) will run the /forestprep command and will select an account to assign the Exchange Server 2003 administrator permissions.
Note:Always remember that if user running Exchange Server 2003 setup is the member of EnterpriseAdmin and SchemaAdmin groups, forestprep and domainprep will be automatically executed.
When you install Exchange Server 2003 in the child domain, you must always run /forestprep in the parent domain, and then /domainprep in the child domain. If you did not run /forestprep command in the parent domain, child domain will prompt you to do so during installation.
The Exchange /domainprep command must be run on each domain that contains/hosts an Exchange Server 2003. This command performs Exchange setup tasks and should be run only by the members of DomainAdmin group.
This utility creates two new groups:-
1. Exchange Domain Servers (Global Security Group)
2. Exchange Enterprise Servers (Domain Local Security Group)
