Global Address List (GAL) is the directory within Exchange email system which contains all of Exchange’s mail recipients (except hidden mailboxes). There is no need to create two GAL. Exception to this rule is if you manage two email domains.
Just use the default GAL which automatically includes all new mail recipients. Sometimes users complain that their GAL is not updated. In that case look to the Global Catalog Servers. Global Catalog server should always be near the Exchange Server.
Recipient Update Service (RUS) is responsible for generating and updating the GAL.
Sometimes users may be missing in the GAL. The following are a few actions to check when there is a recipient missing from the GAL:
If the individual is a new recipient, give RUS some time to stamp the object and replicate.
If it is a new address list, double-check the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) query used to create the address list.
Check the availability of the RUS server and the domain controller that the RUS server uses.
Make sure the computer running Exchange Server is Exchange Domain Server GG.
Make sure Exchange Enterprise Server GG has permission to stamp the recipient.
Rebuild RUS, but recognize that this will take some time in large enterprises.
